PACO CATHOLIC SCHOOL - 4TH WEEK

Updated: Jul 13

(FEBRUARY 10 TO FEBRUARY 14)

A. MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCES

Considering that this week is the end of our internship schedule here in PCS-IMC, I find the saying, “Save the best for last”, real as this week filled me with so many experiences and stories to tell. Starting with the story-telling activity. Despite having performed this activity multiple times during our previous courses, I never got tired of doing it, especially since I have new sets of students in PCS-IMC. So, we told them the story of the “The Northeast Wind and the Sun,” in which I became the narrator and the sun on our last session.

After that, we continued the preparation for our Valentine’s Day event, in which I made the video teaser posted on the Facebook page of Paco Catholic School. Jenny and I also did the butterfly background for our photo wall. This is also the only week in which I experienced records management by helping the registrar record and segregate the school records of students. Then last Friday, the actual Hearts’ Day, we successfully led and executed our Valentine’s Day Program. I am so glad the students loved the activity Sir Darren and I proposed, which is the Open Mic, where students, faculty, and staff shared their moments of love through songs and poems. I will truly miss PCS-IMC for the fruitful and full-of-learning library internship experience.

B. LESSONS LEARNED

So this week, it has been a reminder to not take things lightly, as we encounter delays in preparing for the Valentine’s Day Event. It has been a very challenging week since we had to prepare and perform the storytelling activity last Monday. Then, the registrar also pulled us for assistance in the recording of students’ files, which also made us conscious of the time for the event’s preparation.

Fortunately, we were able to recover, and I must say, it was such a blast. Also, concerning the event, I discovered how PCS-IMS gives importance and appreciation to major events like what we did. We feel the initiative and drive to implement programs that encourage students to visit and utilize the library. In the end, all of our preparations turned out to be successful. From there, I realized that the efforts we had become fruitful as what we have implemented is a sign that as librarians, we are always for the users–faculty, staff, and students.

C. BEST PRACTICES / BEST FEATURES OF THE LIBRARY

As an aspiring school librarian, I am filled with so much joy to see how the PCS-IMS continuously dedicates an activity for the students to engage with reading. An example of this is the storytelling. This served as an avenue for them to not just read but also to listen. Also, the effort to have programs and events that showcase the library, its staff, the facilities, and the collection is remarkable. Just like our Valentine’s Day Event. There, we made sure that it was not just a simple event but also incorporated aspects pertaining to the library, like the “Blind Date with a Book” and the “Open Mic Activity,” where they sang songs, read poems, and shared their favorite book quotes and chapters, which I also participated in.

That alone is evidence of how libraries are not just rooms for books–they can be a place of fun–it evolves. PCS-IMC is not bound to traditional practices, but they make sure that it adds something new to make their institution alive and captivating. Also, I like how the faculty is supportive of our event, and their principal, Miss Dina, liked our designs and allowed us to post our teaser on their Facebook Page.
